Dean Stephens, a dedicated advocate for community development and recovery, brings a wealth of experience to his role as the Director of Development for WakeUp Carolina. Dean will assist in opening WakeUp Carolina’s second office, located at 325 E Main Street in Moncks Corner, SC. The new office is poised to make significant strides under Dean’s leadership as he brings his passion, experience, and vision to the forefront, driving initiatives that will positively impact the lives of those on the journey to recovery in the Berkeley County community.

Before joining WakeUp Carolina, Dean served as the Executive Director of Ripple, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s vision. The Ripple Fund, under Dean’s guidance, envisioned Charleston as a progressive city that activates and supports social entrepreneurs. His leadership fostered intentional, sustainable enterprises that created positive impacts for the benefit of the community. Dean’s dedication to social entrepreneurship has left an enduring mark on Charleston’s landscape.

Dean brings a unique perspective to his role, having spent over 30 years as a news anchor at WCIV, a prominent television station in Charleston. His time in media not only honed his communication skills but also deepened his understanding of the issues facing the community. This experience uniquely positions him to bridge the gap between media, community engagement, and recovery initiatives.

Dean’s academic journey led him to the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. His commitment to learning and personal growth laid the foundation for a career devoted to fostering positive change in communities.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dean is a devoted family man— a loving husband, father, and son. His personal connections underscore his commitment to building strong, resilient communities.
